The Dermaroller is a device that is used for at home use. Perhaps, the only advantage of using a dermaroller over as opposed to a microneedling treatment at Laser Skin and Hair Clinic is cost and convenience. Dermarollers are meant to be a device to be used in conjunction with Microneedling treatments, but they are nowhere near as effective or sterile as a Microneedling treatment. They should not be used in place of a Microneedling treatment.

Our microneedling device has many advantages over the dermaroller. At Laser Skin and Hair Clinic we will numb your skin and, therefore, microneedling is less painful and less traumatic on the skin. The dermaroller inserts needles into the skin at a 45-degree angle. This tends to create tearing wounds as the drum moves across the skin.

Microneedling is more consistent and more versatile. Our nova pens are motorized, allowing for controlled, consistent penetration of the skin. Unlike dermarollers, which are manually powered and often result in user error, puncturing the skin too deep or inconsistently. When we are microneedling your skin, our nova pen can also easily treat areas of the face that a dermaroller cannot such as around the eyes, lips and nose – which allows your treatment to be more customizable. Microneedling is more sanitary. At Laser Skin and hair Clinic, we use disposable tips for all of our microneedling treatments.

Bottom line – microneedling is a more effective treatment. The size of needle in the dermaroller is usually 1 to 1.5mm. Our micropen allows us to penetrate the skin up to 2.5 mm to tailor to the client’s individual areas of concerns and skin issues, including fine lines and acne scarring.
